Abstract
Cardiovascular disease is one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality in both developed and developing countries. Metabolic syndrome is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Its presence not only increases disease prevalence but also worsens disease severity and prognosis. Consequently, it is very important to understand the influence of metabolic syndrome on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and their interrelationship so that preventive strategies can be devised for the population as a whole.
