Abstract
During the last 5 years we have witnessed the introduction of a number of technical developments that have increased the efficacy of cardiac resynchronization therapy. These have led to an implantation success rate of nearly 95% and have increased our ability to optimize hemodynamics in patients. Nevertheless, despite the acknowledged efficacy of cardiac resynchronization therapy, the technique remains underutilized in some contexts. This review assesses the clinical repercussions of major recent technical developments and suggests ways in which use of the technique could be substantially increased.
