Abstract
Cardiac resynchronization using biventricular pacing is being consolidated as a therapeutic option in patients with refractory cardiac insufficiency. Simultaneously, new indications for the use of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator are being considerend, even when the only risk marker is a severe depression of the left ventricular function. The studies in course will provide in a few years suitable information to decide what patients with indication of biventricular stimulation or implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, should also be treated with a defibrillator-resynchronizator system. The present review analyzes the clinical options that will allow us to evaluate in what patients it would be adequate to implant an isolated system and what patients should also receive a cardioverter-defibrillator.
