Abstract
A new lipophilic bicentric organotin arsenate-selective carrier is reported. This new bis(dichloro-4-n-octylphenylstannyl)methane carrier is used for the construction and optimization of an arsenate-selective electrode. The liquid polymeric membrane of the arsenate-selective electrode was optimized and the resulting electrode shows a very good selectivity [KH2AsO4−,Xpot X: ClO4− (0.87) > AsO4− (0) > H2PO4− (−0.97) > NO3− (−1.24) > Cl− (−1.61) > SO42− (−3.16)] and a detection limit in the order of 2 × 10−6 M, in a glutamic buffer of pH 4.0. This study sets the grounds for the development of an ionophore-based sensor for the direct and selective determination of arsenate in aqueous samples.
