Abstract
The novel ternary zinc(II) coordination compound of formula [Zn(2,2â²-bipy)(Phmal)(H2O)]·2H2O (Phmal=phenylmalonate, 2,2â²-bipy=2,2â²-bipyridine) has been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TG), UV-Vis spectra. X-ray crystallographic studies of the complex reveal that the zinc atom has a distorted square-pyramidal geometry being coordinated by two nitrogen atoms of 2,2â²-bipy, two oxygen atoms from the phenylmalonate ligand and one water. It is very interesting in this structure that the complex involves a metal ion bridged ligand-ligand aromatic ring intramolecular Ï-Ï stacking interaction. An extended two-dimensional supramolecular network exhibiting the (6, 3) pattern was assembled through hydrogen bonding.
