Abstract
Spectroscopic analysis of Pr3+ and Er3+ ions in fluoride and oxide systems belonging to the same heavy metal glass family has been reported. From absorption and emission spectra using Judd-Ofelt theory various spectroscopic parameters like radiative transition rates, luminescence lifetimes, radiative quantum efficiencies, spectral line widths as well as emission cross-sections are determined. Selected examples for the spectroscopic behavior of both optical glasses are discussed in relation to the practical application of these materials as a potential laser-active media in the visible and infrared spectral region.
