Abstract
Crystals of 1,2-bis(dipropylaminomethyl)benzene perchlorate were studied by X-ray diffraction and FT-IR spectroscopy. At room temperature the crystals are orthorhombic, space group Pna21, with a=15.065(2), b=9.1573(9) and c=16.511(2)Â Ã
. The dipropylaminomethylene groups are linked by an asymmetric intramolecular +N-Hâ¯N hydrogen bond of 2.714(5) Ã
length. The IR spectrum of 1,2-bis(dipropylaminomethyl)benzene perchlorate in the solid shows only a broad intense band indicating very limited proton polarizability in this medium length intramolecular hydrogen bond.
