Abstract
Novel complexes of ZnX2 [X=Br, CN, Cl] containing the alkaloid α-isosparteine as a bidentate symmetrical ligand have been prepared and characterized by spectroscopic and X-ray methods. The new compounds have been synthesized by a direct synthetic route mixing methanolic solution of ZnX2 and the alkaloid. The solid-state and solution structures of the title compounds have been established and compared. The geometry around the Zn (II) ion is distorted from tetrahedral and the complexes utilize their twofold symmetry in the crystal lattice.
