Abstract
The physics aims and the experimental design of OPERA are briefly reviewed. The status of the detector construction at the Gran Sasso Laboratory and the widespread preparation activity in the member Institutions are reported. The complex and challenging runtime “hybrid” activity to be faced since 2006 is examined, with an outlook at the expected performances.
