Abstract
The role of the electron in condensed media is emphasized with special reference to ionization processes and equilibrium states. Consistent descriptions are provided for: (1) ionization in liquid water, and (2) mobility and free-ion yield in liquid hydrocarbons. A new method for calculating the escape probability of electron-ion geminate recombination is introduced, which may be extended to arbitrary mean free path.
