Abstract
A quarter-century ago, one of us termed the use of nuclear energy a Faustian Bargain. In this paper, we discuss what a Faustian Bargain means, how the expression has been used in characterizing other technologies, and in what measure CO2 capture and storage is a Faustian Bargain. If we are about to enter into another Faustian Bargain, we should understand the contract.
