► Using a CHAID analysis tourists are segmented according to their willingness to pay. ► “Typical sun and beach tourists” present a low willingness to pay. ► Segments more prone to pay the earmarked accommodation tax (EAT) are identified. ► “Environmental steward tourists” are the most receptive to the EAT. ► The key predictors on the segmentation process are behavioural or psychological.
