Abstract
ⶠSnags created by topping live trees with a mechanical harvesters were studied to determine use. ⶠUse of mechanically topped trees for nesting was low during the first 5 years post-creation. ⶠCreated-snag foraging use increased by â¼20% from snag age 2 to snag age 5. ⶠWe did not find a strong relationship between snag density and foraging use. ⶠCreating snags with a feller-buncher is a viable option for increasing snags in young forests.
