Abstract
▶ Environmental factors influenced presence of ground layer climbers. ▶ Characteristics of the host tree influenced the presence of climbing lianas. ▶ Root climbers were more abundant on large trees than tendril climbers or twiners. ▶ Liana DBH and abundance was positively related to DBH of host tree. ▶ Certain tree species were more susceptible to liana colonization than others.
