⺠Water quality trading (WQT) literature features economic, not sociological variables. ⺠A focus on social embeddedness and trust better reveals how WQT works. ⺠WQT program success is explained by the presence trusted intermediaries. ⺠Trust makes information more credible, increases efficiency, and mitigates risk.
