Abstract
⺠Distinct characteristics were identified in the dynamics of bioenergy-driven land-use changes among global regions. ⺠Rising bioenergy demand resulted in significant impacts on 'land- and resource-abundant' developing countries (e.g. Brazil). ⺠Bioenergy-driven land-use changes (past, current and future) were synthesised into four land-use change pathways. ⺠Opportunities for sustainable land-use can be achieved through recent climate change policy and sustainability criteria. ⺠However, bioenergy from wastes and residues must be given higher priority to minimise various land-use change impacts.
