Abstract
⺠We first observed a clear relationship between reading and counting directions. ⺠We then recorded directional counting preferences even before reading acquisition. ⺠Culture-specific counting biases were subsequently modified by early reading experience. ⺠We describe the developmental trajectory of number-space associations from early childhood to adulthood.
