Abstract
⺠We examine the effect of external resistance on the electricity generation of microbial fuel cells (MFC). ⺠Biofilms established under various external resistances show different structures. ⺠A suitable external resistance enables a MFC to achieve optimum performance. ⺠A low external resistance is beneficial for a MFC to obtain a high maximum sustainable current generation.
