Abstract
▶ Poly(vinylidene fluoride) is grafted with poly(vinylbenzyltrimethylammonium. ▶ chloride) via atom transfer radical polymerization to afford an ion conductive ionomer. ▶ The ionomer shows a high ion exchange capacity and improved water affinity. ▶ A direct hydrazine hydrate fuel cell employing such ionomer as a catalyst binder exhibits 5-10 fold increase of output relative to that without using such ionomer.
