Abstract
The bimetallic inorganic-organic complex salt [Ru(bipy)3]2[Bi4I16] was synthesized solvothermally from BiI3 using [Ru(bipy)3]I2 · 4H2O as both a cation source and a halide ion donor. The title compound represents a rare mixed-metal halobismuthate material and offers the unique combination of a photochemically active cation in conjunction with an anionic component derived from the neutral semiconductor BiI3.
