Abstract
A new diarylheptanoid characterized as (5S)-hydroxy-1-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-7-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-hepta-1E-en-3-one was isolated with seventeen known diarylheptanoids from the leaves of Alnus hirsuta f. sibirica. These diarylheptanoids inhibit adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells and anti-adipogenic activity of the most active constituent in this plant is exerted mediated by the PPARγ dependent pathway.
