Abstract
⺠Possible roles of five well-conserved glutamic acid resides in bacterial nitric oxide reductase is discussed on the basis of its crystal structure. ⺠Possible mechanism of the NO reduction by this anaerobic respiratory enzyme is also proposed. ⺠These will provide us insight into molecular evolution of the respiratory enzymes.
