Abstract
â¶ BAX self-integrates/oligomerizes in the OMM with miniscule cytochrome c release. â¶ Ca2+ stimulates BAX insertion and cytochrome c release. â¶ Ca2+ effect depends on induction of the mitochondrial permeability transition. â¶ Bcl-xL does not prevent BAX insertion but attenuates cytochrome c release. â¶ DTT inhibits BAX insertion and the release of cytochrome c and Smac/DIABLO.
