Abstract
▶ The negative impacts of herbivory to plant metabolism are generally addressed, but plant strategies to surpass these impacts are not focused. ▶ Two arthropod-host plant systems were accompanied in morphological and physiological approaches as the development of each gall requires repetitive processes and demand specific metabolical features. ▶ The investigation of the galls in Aspidosperma australe and A. spruceanum demonstrated for the very first time the occurrence of plastoglobules, and its increase in size and number. ▶ The features of the plastoglobules were related to the recovering of the thylakoid membrane systems, and consequently, to the maintenance of the photosynthetic rates in both galls.
