Abstract
ⶠBud dormancy and cold acclimation are induced by short photoperiod in many trees. ⶠChilling (+5 °C) removes dormancy but simultaneously improves freezing tolerance. ⶠIn dormant meristems morphogenesis is put on hold by obstruction of cell signaling. ⶠIn dormancy release 1,3-β-glucanase-enzymes remove callose at plasmodesmata. ⶠLipid bodies may assist in transporting 1,3-β-glucanase enzymes to plasmodesmata.
