Abstract
⺠Plant-residues release hydrophilic DOM that dominates soil DOM only for a few days. ⺠After this initial pulse, the majority of DOM is derived from soil organic matter. ⺠Isotope signatures suggest that DOM is not the major bioaccessible C pool in soil.
