Abstract
⺠Even small changes of water potential decreased gross N turnover rates in the O horizon. ⺠Only in the Oa horizon gross nitrification was more sensitive to desiccation than ammonification. ⺠A reduction in gross N turnover rates can be expected in forest soils even at moderate desiccation.
