Abstract
⺠Plants use hydraulic signals for communication of changes in local water status to remote organs. ⺠Hydraulic signaling is very fast and in the range of meters per minute. ⺠Perception of the hydraulic signal triggers formation of the plant hormone abscisic acid. ⺠Plant sensors of the hydraulic signal are not known yet, but promising candidates are identified. ⺠Known mechanosensors and osmosensors provide mechanistic insights into sensor function.
