Abstract
⺠A link between human meprins and MMPs is proposed. ⺠Meprin α and β process proMMP-9 at the aminoterminus. ⺠Processing of proMMP-9 yields its natural form produced by neutrophils and monocytes. ⺠Meprin-mediated aminoterminal clipping enhances activation kinetics of proMMP-9 by MMP-3.
