Abstract
⺠Although not metabolized, d-galacturonic acid is rapidly taken up by yeast cells. ⺠Uptake does not show saturation and strongly increases at lower pH. ⺠Uptake characteristics are consistent with a channel-type transport system. ⺠d-Galacturonic acid could be trapped intracellularly in the anionic form. ⺠The channel-type uptake system is likely encoded by several genes.
