Abstract
► We found considerable substrate-binding affinity in a non-typical glycosidase subsite of ChiA from Serratia marcescens. ► Substrate affinity may promote endo-activity and/or product displacement. ► This subsite is necessary for the positioning of N-acetyl groups.
