Abstract
⺠We observed prolonged OSM-dependent STAT1 and MAPK activation in STAT3 deficient MEFs. ⺠Fos and Egr1 mRNAs induction was likewise prolonged, independent of MAPK activity. ⺠In vivo STAT1 binding to Fos and Egr1 promoters was observed in STAT3â/â MEFs only. ⺠Inhibiting STAT1 phosphorylation abolishes prolonged Fos and Egr1 induction. ⺠Perturbing STAT3:STAT1 balance alters STAT1 transcriptional activities.
