Abstract
► We studied hESC expansion on 10 different microcarriers in suspension cultures. ► Microcarrier and coating choices determine hESC expansion potential and pluripotency. ► Positive charged, cylindrical and spherical microcarriers show high cell expansion. ► Negative charged, small and macroporous microcarriers have lower expansion potential. ► Matrigel or Laminin coatings are essential for long-term stable cultivation of hESC.
