Abstract
⺠We examine the fate of skin-derived stem cells when transplanted into nerve tissue. ⺠Stem cell death, differentiation, and survival are dependent on nerve environment. ⺠Stem-cell derived Schwann cells generate myelin in peripheral nerves. ⺠Apoptosis of transplanted cells can be modified by supplying exogenous neuregulins.
