Abstract
This report describes a case of proximal duodenal obstruction associated with two trichophytobezoars in a horse presenting for mild colic with copious reflux production. The case proved to be a diagnostic challenge, with rectal examination, ultrasonography, gastroscopy, and abdominocentesis failing to ascertain the reason for colic. In the absence of significant findings and the continued production of reflux, the horse was presumed to have a proximal duodenal obstruction. Surgery was not pursued by the owners, and the horse was euthanized. Postmortem examination revealed two trichophytobezoars: one located in the stomach and one in the proximal duodenum. This case report describes the progression of the condition, and the diagnostic difficulties presented a by proximal duodenal obstruction.
