Abstract
ⶠA three-dimensional solar radiation interception model was validated for a wide range of canopies, planting pattern and leaf area density. ⶠTube solarimeters placed along and across the row were used for below-canopy solar irradiance measurements. The measurement points and data considered were more than previous studies. ⶠModel-estimated solar irradiance transmittances were in good agreement with measurements. ⶠAgreements between model-estimations and measurements were influenced by distance and direction from tree trunk, sky conditions, canopy symmetry, stand uniformity and leaf distribution.
