▶ Current irrigation practices in the US Central High Plains are not sustainable. ▶ Groundwater depletion rate is up to 10 times greater than recharge. ▶ Percolation/recharge is related to soil texture and land use. ▶ Irrigation return flow generally has not recharged the aquifer.
