Using manure from cattle fed dried distillers' grains with solubles (DDGS) as fertilizer: Effects on nutrient accumulation in soil and uptake by barley

▶ The effect of DDGS (60% DMI DDGS diet) and REG (barley grain diet) manure on soil TN and AN was similar. ▶ The TP and AP content in DDGS manure amended soils were higher than those receiving REG manure. ▶ Higher barley forage N and P uptake and yield was observed in DDGS than in REG manure treatments. ▶ Greater TP content in DDGS manure require greater land area for manure application based on crop P need. ▶ Manure from cattle fed high levels of DDGS can increase soil AP content and associated risk of P runoff.
