Abstract
⺠Male fruit flies force-copulate with newly eclosed females. ⺠We tested whether forcibly mated females can overcome the typical unreceptive period following consensual mating. ⺠We quantified the effects of consensual versus forced matings on female attractiveness and receptivity. ⺠Forcibly mated females were as attractive to males as virgin females and more attractive than consensually mated females. ⺠Mating frequency of forcibly mated females was lower than virgin females' and higher than consensually mated females'.
