Abstract
⺠Being selective regarding whom and when to copy increases social-learning benefits. ⺠We test how rich/poor rearing conditions affect model selectivity in adult finches. ⺠Females predominantly copied from females with the same rearing conditions. ⺠Males copied predominantly from males reared in poor conditions. ⺠Early rearing conditions can thus structure information transfer in adult groups.
