Abstract
⺠We evaluated whether signal modulation is used as a mechanism for maintaining signal efficacy in Anolis lizards. ⺠Individuals modulated signal properties depending on the distance to intended receivers. ⺠Modulation occurred within the constraints imposed by specific properties of receiver sensory systems. ⺠Fine-scale modulation was most effective at relatively short distances.
