► We investigate the effect of maternal traits on meerkat offspring sex ratios. ► Maternal dominance status does not affect meerkat offspring sex ratios. ► Maternal mass and age do not affect meerkat offspring sex ratios. ► Advantages of producing mixed litters may reduce the benefits of sex ratio adjustment.
