Abstract
► We examine fledging behaviour regarding offspring sex, paternity status and body mass in blue tits. ► Male extrapair young (EPY) fledge earlier than their siblings. ► This effect remains when correcting for body mass, a correlate of hatching order. ► This suggests that male EPY may profit from both maternal and nonmaternal effects.
