Abstract
⺠We investigate cooperative behaviour in the banded mongoose. ⺠We examine the impact of resource limitation on contributions to offspring care. ⺠The sexes respond differently to resource limitation. ⺠Investments in care reflect the impact of body condition on reproductive success. ⺠Patterns of cooperative care are consistent with kin selection theory.
