Abstract
⺠We studied effects of habitat structure and male cues on mate search behaviour. ⺠Female sticklebacks searched in pools containing nesting males and a social female. ⺠High habitat complexity reduced mate encounter rate. ⺠A switch from visual to olfactory cues reduced time spent searching and evaluating mates. ⺠Thus, the habitat changes reduced mate searching.
