Abstract
► Reduced territoriality in the winter is often assigned to the absence of breeding. ► Pied babblers reduce territorial behaviour in the nonbreeding season. ► We test whether this was due to reduced food availability in nonbreeding periods. ► Reduction in territorial behaviour can be attributed to reductions in food availability.
