Abstract
► We investigated social group and kinship effects on goat call ontogeny. ► Half siblings had similar calls when they had been raised in the same social group. ► Full siblings had more similar calls than half siblings. ► Group identity cues provide evidence for a social environment impact on vocal ontogeny. ► Vocal plasticity could be far more widespread in mammals than previously believed.
