Male blue monkey alarm calls encode predator type and distance

► We use acoustic predator models to investigate male blue monkeys' alarm calls. ► Results indicate that 'hacks' are functionally referential, predator-specific calls. ► Contextually relevant information may be contained in the call-series structure. ► Contrary to earlier findings, calling rates are lower when urgency is higher.
