Abstract
⺠We studied the effect of deliberately altered voice pitch on vocal attractiveness and dominance. ⺠Sex-atypical alterations in pitch decreased vocal attractiveness. ⺠Sex-typical alterations in pitch did not affect vocal attractiveness. ⺠Lowering voice pitch increased perceptions of dominance in same-sex judgments. ⺠Perception of altered voice pitch may mitigate potential costs of using an alterable cue to assess attractiveness.
