Abstract
⺠We compared navigational abilities of polygynous deer mice and monogamous California mice. ⺠Male deer mice outperformed conspecific females and California mice in a Barnes maze. ⺠Performance of male deer mice was related to their ability to assimilate spatial clues. ⺠Our results provide insights into the evolution of sexually selected cognitive and behavioural traits.
